Keys

Send your key in an Authorization header: Authorization: Bearer trv_…. Without a key you still get what each grant is (its name, funder, size and what it funds), marked "locked": true, but not its dates, fit or how to apply.

Every Trovu plan comes with a key, in Your plan. For heavier use in your own product, talk to us. Keep keys on your server: never in a web page or an app people download.

Grants open now

`GET /v1/grants`

Grants open now and opening soon, best match first. Search by place, by the work, by a charity, or any mix. Up to five closing within 14 days come first.

Parameter	What it does
`place`	Where the work is, as people say it: Hackney, near Bodmin, Cornwall, E8 1DY. Repeat it (or separate with ;) for several. Local grants come first, then next-door, county, region and national.
`work`	What the charity does or wants funding for, in plain words.
`org_id`	A charity's Org ID, e.g. GB-CHC-1149896: its work and areas come from the register, and each grant is checked for whether it can apply.
`grant_max`, `grant_min`	The size of grant wanted, in pounds.
`income`	The applicant's yearly income, checked against funders' limits.
`closing_within`	Only grants with a deadline within this many days.
`limit`	How many (1 to 40; 20 if not given).

A place that could be several (Richmond: North Yorkshire or London) comes back in places_to_clarify with its choices and no grants: ask which, and search again.

Charities and funders

`GET /v1/charities/search?q=`	Charities in England and Wales by the work they do.
`GET /v1/charities/lookup?name=`	Charities by name or number, forgiving of typos.
`GET /v1/charities/{org_id}`	One charity, from the register.
`GET /v1/charities/{org_id}/funders`	Funders of charities like this one.
`GET /v1/funders?q=`	Who funds work like this, most widely given first.
`GET /v1/funders/{org_id}`	One funder and its recent grants.
`GET /v1/funders/{org_id}/programmes`	A funder's programmes now.
`GET /v1/grants/recent`	Grants recently awarded (360Giving).
`GET /v1/usage`	Your key's plan, daily limit and use.

Limits and errors

Each key has a daily allowance, reset at midnight UTC. Every answer says what's left: X-RateLimit-Limit, X-RateLimit-Remaining and X-Trovu-Key-Status.

`400`	Something missing or wrong in the request; the error says what.
`401`	A key is needed (for /v1/usage).
`404`	No such charity, funder or grant (a grant may have closed or been removed).
`429`	Too many requests: wait for the number of seconds in Retry-After.

Errors are JSON: {"error": "…"}.

Credit

Show the credit that comes with each answer next to what you show from it. Grants are read from funders' own websites by Trovu, and from Find a Grant (Open Government Licence); charities come from the Charity Commission register (Open Government Licence); past grants from 360Giving publishers, each under its own licence. Tell people to check with the funder before applying.
